Therapist Lili James
A warm welcome! Embarking on your therapy journey is a courageous and exciting step. It can be nerve wracking to reach out and ask for some support, I hope to make that experience as stress free as possible, and look forward to meeting you and working together to heal, build resilience, and live fully.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched and effective method of therapy that helps people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

Using bi-lateral stimulation (rythymic patterns left to right) EMDR harnesses the brains natural healing process.
EMDR therapy is extremely effective in resolving unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain.

Brains naturally can recover from traumatic memories and events. This process involves communication between the amygdala (alarm system), the hippocampus (the filing room that holds your memories), and the prefrontal cortex (the logical, reasonable manager who makes very good decisions!).
Although your brain can process events naturally, sometimes these inbuilt mechanisms can get overwhelmed, causing 'glitches'. This can often be the case when you have gone through something very stressful.
You will know that you have unprocessed experiences if the images, thoughts, and emotions of the memory creates an overwhelming feeling of being back in the past, or feeling “frozen in time.” EMDR kickstarts your brain to process these memories to the point where the experience is still remembered, but the distressing feelings are gone.
